Long Description

============[ Welcome ]============

This theme is for people who like it dark. If you're running a dark desktop then this is for you. So zip up your flight suit, make sure your harness is secure, and enjoy the ride.

This theme supports two modes of use:

1 - as a simple dark theme with a dark toolbar, which is how it is installed by default
2 - with your choice of NASA images, which you enable by taking a couple extra steps, which you can read about below.

=============[ News ]=============

2008-12-14: From now on, announcements about NNL will be posted on the Night Launch News blog so you can subscribe to the RSS feed. See http://nightlaunchnews.blogspot.com/ for the blog and feed.

2008-10-08: For Mac/OS X users, now offering Mac-specific styling of the Firefox desktop menubar. Requires the 'Stylish' add-on. See release notes for NNL version 0.6.20081008 below.

2008-06-16: Now supporting Firefox 3!

2008-01-30: From here on out, NNL releases will be compatible with Firefox official releases and Betas, but not with nightly builds.

========[ Desktop Integration ]========

Looks great on its own (for Windows XP, Vista, and Linux) and with dark desktop themes, including Zune, Royale Noir, and Vista Aero.

=======[ Extension Compatibility ]=======

Compatible with a long list of Firefox extensions, including many of the most popular. For the complete list, see the Mozillazine Forums support thread:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=547498

============[ Extras ]============

To watch the spectacular night launch of Discovery on December 9, 2006, type the following address into Firefox (in the Location Bar at the top, after installing this theme and restarting Firefox with this theme selected).

chrome://global/skin/extras/video.html

To see the list of all NASA shuttle night launches, type this address into Firefox:

chrome://global/skin/extras/nightlaunches.html

============[ Customization ]============

Pimp your orbital ride with subskins! Use subskins to add NASA background images and tweak the look of your toolbar to steer for a precise window in space!

For more about customization with subskins, see chrome://global/skin/extras/subskins.html (Type that address into the Firefox Location Bar after installing and restarting with this theme.)

See also the 'Tweaks & Mods' page on the web site:

http://home.comcast.net/~username54321/starfield/mods.html

============[ Limitations ]============

Every system has its limits. Here's ours.

- The main browser window works with any monitor resolution, but subskin background images (if you choose to use them) will handle main browser width up to 1600px and toolbars height up to 200px. If you use too many toolbars with too big a font size you'll run out of image.
- Options window background images assume window is not resizable. (Some extensions will allow you to resize the Options window, but not in the stock Firefox installation.)
- With Firefox 2, like the default Firefox 2 theme, browser tabs are usable but funny-looking at the largest font sizes.
- It's bigger than most themes because of the NASA background images. (There's just over 1MB of NASA images in the theme. This is simpler for people than having to download them separately.)
- Does not support RTL (right-to-left) browsers.
- DOM Inspector needs more love.

Such is life. Per aspera ad astra. Enjoy your flight!
